The darnedest things

Today I went to the International School of Arizona (my old work) because it was the last day of the kids' summer camp. They're just as adorable as I remember and the highlight was one of my favorites shouting from across the room,

"I'M SO HAPPY TO SEE HER!!!"

Parler anglais tue... :\

I've joined a couple of groups on facebook of other people doing my program in France next fall and someone posted this video -- I just had to share it. :)

Les animaux dansent dans le safari disco club.

Last night I was lucky enough to go see Yelle at the Rhythm Room and it was too cool! I don't know if I've ever had so much fun at a concert before. She was excellent live and we all danced like crazy.

I took a clip of her encore, but I had to cut it short because I couldn't dance and film at the same time. :)

Even more amazing was that she actually stayed after to sign autographs and take pictures. She was super adorable and nice.

Here is the music video for the song she was singing in my clip (A Cause des Garcons).

Now if I could just get my hands on her new album I would be set. :)

Mes nouvelles aventures en France

Last October, I applied to a program to become an English teaching assistant in France and I just found out that I've been accepted! From what I know so far, I will be somewhere in the Grenoble region. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait a bit longer to find out exactly where I'll be and exactly what level I'll be teaching.

While I wait, I'll content myself with researching the French Alps region, planning the places I want to visit, and studying my French. I feel like I will appreciate being immersed in French so much more than three years ago.

What a great birthday present. :)

Claire Denamur

I love that Claire Denamur's voice is described as "légèrement cassée" on wikipedia.
It sounds so much cooler than just saying she has a raspy voice.

Things at work that amuse me.

1. When little French ladies think that I must be Russian since the name Katrina is of Russian origin.

2. When parents come in and can't figure out if I'm French or American at first glance.

3. When I think a kid must be from an American family and am dumbfounded when their foreign parents pick them up.

4. When the kids walk through the hallway as silent as mice and then turn into a pack of howling, screaming monkeys upon stepping one inch outside of the door.

5. When little girls write "No Boys Allowed" in chalk on their section of the sidewalk - in FOUR different languages.

Busy busy busy.

I started my new job this week! I love it there. The kids are great, the hours go by fast, and I don't have to clean anything. And of course I get to use my French.

The first day was crazy because we weren't sure which kids were staying for the after-school program, but every day we get more and more kids. We start the day with free time playing with blocks, coloring, and playing games and then get them washing their hands and eating a snack by 4 o'clock. After that, they play outside, come inside for craft time, and then we close up at six. It's a nice short day and most of the parents pick up the kids before we even come back inside.

I have a few favorite kids already -- one little boy that always brings a giant Pound puppy stuffed animal and a little girl that never talks but always wants to play with me. Fun kids.

In other news, Tyler will be moving into an apartment tomorrow! I'm so excited for him and am happy to have a place to crash during the school year when I have breaks between class and work. There's no way I'm driving all the way back home before work when I have to commute to Scottsdale. I want to help pick out furniture and decorate, but I'll have to restrain myself and not pick anything too feminine such as...

a headboard made of old books found at apartment therapy

Design Sponge

Urban Outfitters (and for the rest of the items as well)

I love this shower curtain with the French vocabulary written all over it.
Tyler needs to learn some French anyway.

Francoise Hardy Obsession

A couple of years ago, my dad wanted the family to sit down and watch Grand Prix, a movie he used to watch over and over and over again when he was little. It ended up being a pretty good movie but what interested me the most was the awesome French girl, Francoise Hardy. Though she has a very small part compared to the rest of the cast, I became obsessed with her style and even contemplated cutting bangs like her. She's one of my favorite French women and though she does not sing in the movie, she is better known for her work as a singer.

Do you ever just wish you were a French woman?

So gorgeous! But why do these women hardly ever smile with teeth?

Hors de Prix

Last night I watched Priceless
(French title Hors de Prix)
at Jessica's and my goodness is it a cute movie.
I love Audrey Tautou.

And the guy in it is so charmingly dorky and adorable.

I just wonder though if she intentionally
chooses scripts where her character rides off into the sunset
on a scooter
with
the man
of her dreams...
comme Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain.

Even though parts of it were a bit odd

I still loved Paris, Je T'aime.
