A Cry for Help

Does still having my Christmas tree up make me a terrible person?

I had every intention of taking my tree down several weeks ago, but Target was already out of ornament boxes and now everywhere else is probably out too.

Is there any hope of finding a box to store ornaments or will they be in some warehouse-of no-return until next November?

In my defense, life has been a little too crazy for messing with Christmas decor. I started teaching English full time this semester at a high school. I feel so ridiculously lucky to have gotten a job right out of college, but I feel bad about the circumstances surrounding this blessing. To make a long story short, another teacher needed to resign for personal reasons and I happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Taking over classes mid-year has been a challenge, but things are really starting to come along. I'm wrapping up The Odyssey with my freshmen and gearing up to start The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (one of my favorites) with my juniors. It should be a great year.

In other news, here is another silly putty creation for your amusement. Frosty the SillyPutty Man.

Merry Christmas Eve!

The first weekend of December, Tyler and I went to Vegas. It was a pretty last-minute trip and considering that I had 90 papers to grade that weekend, it may not have been the wisest of decisions. Still, we had a blast and I finally got to see a Cirque du Soleil show. Ka was amazing and had the most incredible stagecraft I've ever seen.

We even got to see the MGM lions being active for once. They came up so close!

We spent most of our time just walking around the casinos and checking out all of the great Christmas decorations. Bellagio is always my favorite.

Last night we went to Zoolights at the Phoenix Zoo and almost all of our pictures came out something like this:

Then there were Komodo dragons, my childhood animal obsession.
Now I'm off to get ready for the next two days of Christmas family gatherings,
church, presents, and too much food.

Merry Christmas!

Edit: Oh yeah, I graduated. :)

Halloween meets Christmas

Aside from eating ungodly amounts of candy corn and discounted chocolate, the only Halloween tradition we partook in this year was pumpkin carving... and this is what we have to show for it.

I present you with Jack the Pumpkin King, glowing hot pink.

Anniversaire de Rencontre...

Thanks for the reminder, Facebook. :)

I suppose we should make plans.

Maybe that dream date?
Or some belated anniversary ice cream from Ici in Berkeley next, next weekend?

Mother's Day

At work this weekend, I would tell moms on their way out to "Have a great Mother's Day" and ended up getting a lot of "You too!"s back. In honor of this day, here are the two best nurserys ever.

Here's to being a mother in the very, VERY distant future.

And happy mother's day, Mama. :) I love you.

Birthday Blues

This has not been such a fun birthday week so far. I'm feeling stressed out and burned out on my internship and school. I'm so ready for it to be summer so that I can really get going on my thesis and other projects I've been itching to work on.

I should've mentioned to the people making my life difficult this week that tomorrow is my birthday. Maybe then those certain people would have eased up on me and quit their negativity. Or maybe not.

Either way, I'm ready to get away from them and spend time with my family and friends the rest of this week.

Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts...

Today someone asked me if I used to live in France and I told them that I went there once. That question always makes me happy, but at the same time it makes me sad because I really miss France. Plus, I’m super jealous of Jessica and her plans to go to France in May. She is going to have so much fun. :)

Merry Christmas (almost)!

Yesterday I went out shopping with my mom all afternoon and now I remember why I hate Christmas shopping last minute. What. a. nightmare.

I'd just like to ask Bed, Bath, & Beyond, Costco, and BevMo! a couple of questions.
  1. Why would you display the discounted price of an item when you don't even have it in stock anymore?
  2. Why didn't your cashier guy stop the conveyor belt thingy and keep my boxes from getting smashed in on one side?
  3. How could you run out of $25 gift cards?
Next year I'm finishing my shopping before Halloween.

Happy Birthday Mommy!

My mom's birthday was yesterday and I forgot to put up a blogpost in time for her! Shame on me, but I love you, Mama, and I hope you had a wonderful day!

We went to the grocery store together once I got off work and picked up some delicious spice cake mix and cream cheese frosting. It was delicious - particularly with the blue and green dolphin-shaped sprinkles.

Joe's Farm Grill with family, too. What a fun birthday weekend. :)

This weekend...

Some work, some play.
I'm super excited to be going to see Beauty & the Beast tonight with my family. It's for my mommy's birthday (July 20th) and we're all getting delicious pizza cookies afterward.
Unfortunately, I have to finish up this book so I can
write an essay about it by midnight on Monday.
:P
We'll see how it goes...

Happy Mother's Day!

I made this video for my mom tonight. I heard this song today and it just fits so well with how I feel about my mom. :) Hope you love it, Mama!

SNOW

Tyler and I went to Sno Bowl last Tuesday where I took a skiing lesson while he snowboarded down all the really hard runs. Then he was kind enough to stay with me on the bunny slopes the rest of the day, take pictures with me, and listen to my obnoxious singing on the car ride home. :)

It was a great day and I'll never forget it.
Tyler left Sunday for school and even though I'm sad, hopefully this is the last time we'll ever have to say goodbye again. I'm crossing my fingers for a successful graduation and his admission to ASU for graduate school.
